The History of FE Devices
Samsung started the moniker FE or Fan Edition with the S20 FE, a device that won multiple accolades. Back in 2020, the S20FE was a true value champion being recommended more often than the flagship base models. Since then we have seen the S21FE and more. We even saw it with tablets.
FE for Foldables? – That’s Good News
Samsung Foldable devices have arguably the best hardware and software experience, but it’s generally the price tag that keeps a general user away. The problems with foldables start with adoption, and a heavy price tag keeps a new user away even if justified.
So, if Samsung is indeed planning an FE foldable device, then this is good news.
Here is what we know so far –
At CES( Consumer Electronic Show), the potential of a new “Galaxy Z Flip XE” was spotted in the GSMA database suggesting Samsung may be working on a more budget-friendly foldable option. If the GSMA listing is accurate, Samsung’s foldable strategy might shift to a “lite” or “affordable” version. The Galaxy Z Flip XE could feature toned-down specifications, such as a mid-range processor, simpler materials, or fewer premium features, all while keeping the signature clamshell design intact. In late November, rumors suggested that Samsung could unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, with the FE model expected to be powered by the Exynos 2400e chipset. This processor, also used in the Galaxy S24 FE, is designed for solid performance at a lower cost. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumored to sport the more advanced Exynos 2500, though details about this chip have yet to be officially revealed.
Beyond this, little is known about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, with only hints that they are in development and no clear information on potential upgrades.
